Cataloging practices in the Pergamum system

Alignment with RDA/LRM

Abstract

Objective: To verify whether the Pergamum library management software complies with international standards, as well as to assess whether it allows cataloging according to the Resource Description and Access (RDA) and the principles of the Library Reference Model (LRM). Method: A methodological approach was adopted that combined a literature review with practical experimentation. The experimentation involved using Pergamum to catalog works following the RDA, which is based on the LRM, a conceptual model that structures bibliographic description around entities such as work, expression, manifestation, and item. Results: Indicate that the Pergamum software has the necessary functionalities to perform cataloging according to the premises of the RDA and LRM in a satisfactory manner. It enables the creation of bibliographic records that meet the requirements of these international standards, ensuring accuracy in the description and relationships between bibliographic entities. Conclusions: This study demonstrates the ability of Pergamum to support cataloging aligned with the principles of RDA and LRM, while also contributing to the development of applied research in this field. By exploring the use of Pergamum for advanced cataloging, the study paves the way for the modernization of library practices in libraries using this system.
