Abstract

Objective: the study addresses the semantic enrichment of metadata, a process that enhances the quality and usefulness of bibliographic data by adding contextual information and semantic relationships. This process contributes to data accessibility and interoperability, enabling the integration of different databases and facilitating the discovery of previously isolated information. The objective of the study was to describe the scientific production on the application of semantic enrichment in the context of bibliographic data. Method: this is a descriptive and qualitative study, using the Open Knowledge Maps tool and complementary searches in recognized scientific databases. Results: sixteen studies were selected, applying different methods such as ontologies, controlled vocabularies, and Linked Open Data. Conclusions: by adding layers of meaning, semantic enrichment of metadata enables more precise searches, facilitates the integration of diverse information sources, and broadens knowledge discovery across various domains.
