Abstract

Contextualization: the ways of knowing symbolic forms mediated by digital technologies, algorithmic architexts, and artificial intelligence are situated within a contemporary scenario marked by profound transformations in the objects and practices of Information Science. This involves hybrid analog-digital configurations and the action of multiple domains-cultural, technological, economic, and social-that influence the production, organization, and circulation of information. Objective: this study seeks to investigate the modes of knowing these mediated symbolic forms and, above all, to identify which investigative approaches are currently most pertinent to the field of Information Science, considering the complexity and plurality of its objects and contexts. Methodology: to this end, a theoretical-conceptual and essay-based approach is adopted, grounded in the analysis of the current state of issues relevant to the investigative domain, as well as in the evaluation and systematization of renewed methodological practices. As analytical support, Luciano Floridi’s proposition of a Science of Contents is incorporated, alongside dialogue with critical studies on interdisciplinarity. Results: the analysis highlights the need for an epistemological and methodological revision of Information Science in light of the new configurations of its objects. The relevance of Floridi’s proposal as an integrative axis of different bodies of knowledge is emphasized, as is the recognition of interdisciplinarity as a consolidated paradigmatic orientation within the field. Final considerations: it is concluded that the advancement of Information Science depends on its ability to reconfigure its theoretical and methodological foundations, incorporating interdisciplinary approaches and expanding its analytical frameworks to address contemporary dynamics mediated by digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
