Objective: this study aims to analyze the feasibility of compliance with the FAIR Principles by examining the institutional repository policies, metadata records, and interfaces of institutional repositories at Federal Universities in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Method: a qualitative approach was adopted, employing documentary research to analyze the repository policies of four federal universities in Rio de Janeiro. Results: the method was applied, leading to the development of a checklist for assessing compliance with the FAIR Principles. This checklist enabled the identification of key adjustments needed and provided insights into the alignment of metadata and repository policies with these principles. Conclusions: the study found that institutional repositories can be adapted to align with the FAIR Principles. However, the repository policies analyzed did not explicitly mention these principles. It can be inferred that integrating the FAIR Principles could enhance the management of records in institutional repositories.
