Abstract
Objective: To map Brazilian scientific production on AI in university libraries and to indicate how the topic has been discussed in the country within the context of Information Science. Method: A qualitative-quantitative study that uses the BRAPCI database as its data source, based on a combination of descriptive bibliometric analysis and content analysis. Results: The applications fall mainly on reference services and technical processing. A conditioned enthusiasm prevails, one that recognizes the potential of AI but reaffirms the importance of the librarian and of AI literacy. Conclusions: The study points to the need to expand empirical research in university libraries, foster interinstitutional cooperation, and develop experimental projects that link technological innovation with social, political, and educational responsibility.
