Text Similarity Analysis / Plagiarism Check
Chapter I – Similarity Check
Art. 1 All manuscripts submitted to Ciência da Informação Express undergo content originality analysis through textual similarity checking.
Art. 2 The check is carried out using Plagius software. It is mandatory and applied during the initial editorial phase, prior to peer review.
Sole paragraph. Manuscripts showing signs of plagiarism or a significant similarity percentage may be summarily rejected or returned to the authors for clarification and revision.
Chapter II – Author Responsibility
Art. 3 Authors are solely responsible for ensuring:
I – the originality of the submitted text;
II – proper citation of ideas, data, images, tables, or any other third-party content;
III – complete inclusion of all referenced sources.
Sole paragraph. Failure to meet these responsibilities will be considered an ethical violation.
Chapter III – Definition of Plagiarism
Art. 4 For the purposes of this policy, plagiarism is defined as the unauthorized appropriation of intellectual work, by any means, without proper attribution, as defined by Wachowski and Costa (2016, p. 110):
“[...] essentially an ethical issue that consists of the act of appropriating, by any form or means, an intellectual work of another person, presenting it as one’s own. [...] It is the improper appropriation of a text, a piece of music, a painting, or any other intellectual work, in which the usurper assumes authorship, deliberately omitting credit to the original author.”
Chapter IV – Misconduct Investigation
Art. 5 Any suspicion of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, or other forms of misconduct related to submitted manuscripts will be investigated by the editorial team.
Sole paragraph. The investigation will follow the guidelines and flowcharts established by COPE’s Core Practices (Committee on Publication Ethics).
Art. 6 If misconduct is confirmed, the editorial team may adopt the following measures, individually or cumulatively:
I – Rejection of the manuscript;
II – Formal notification to the authors;
III – Notification of the affiliated institutions;
IV – Temporary ban on future submissions to the journal;
V – Retraction of previously published articles, when applicable.
Chapter V – Final Provisions
Art. 7 This policy is an integral part of the editorial guidelines of Ciência da Informação Express and may be revised periodically based on international best practices in research integrity.
