Author Guidelines
1 Scope of Activity
Ciência da Informação Express is a channel for communication and scientific dissemination that accepts submissions of original works related to the field of Information Science, presenting study and research results concerning activities in the science and technology information sector, with at least one of the authors holding a doctoral degree.
The journal will accept only original works: research articles, experience reports, book reviews (published within the last three years), or critical essays.
With regard to periodicity, it adopts the continuous publication system (rolling pass). In this format, publication occurs as articles are approved. There is one volume per year, without issues, with the aim of minimizing the gap between submission, acceptance, and dissemination of approved articles.
Material for publication must be submitted through the Open Journal System, on the journal’s website https://cienciadainformacaoexpress.ufla.br, respecting the principles of blind submission.
2 Peer Review
Ciência da Informação Express adopts a double-blind peer review process for scientific articles and communications. For other sections, a single-blind evaluation method is used, where the reviewer knows the author’s identity and institution.
Manuscripts are pre-evaluated by the Editorial Team, considering originality, contribution, relevance, timeliness of the theme, overall structure, and compliance with editorial policies. Otherwise, authors will be notified within 30 days with a rejection, a request for adjustments, and/or archiving of the manuscript.
After the initial screening, approved manuscripts will be forwarded to at least two reviewers with recognized expertise in the related areas for analysis, approval (with or without corrections), or rejection. In case of a tie in reviewers’ decisions, editors may invite additional reviewers. The Editor in charge of the manuscript will notify the author of one of the following: “Acceptance,” “Acceptance with mandatory revisions,” “Resubmit” (and new review round), or “Rejection,” closing the editorial process.
For “Acceptance with mandatory revisions,” the author will have a deadline established by the editor to submit a revised version. The Editor in charge will verify whether the revised text complies with the reviewers’ requirements and will inform whether it was accepted, rejected, or still needs modifications. Another round of evaluation may be initiated. Failure to submit within the deadline without justification may result in immediate rejection.
If the final review results in rejection, the author will be notified of the reasons and may resubmit after incorporating new elements into the text, following reviewers’ recommendations, thereby restarting the editorial flow with different reviewers.
For changes related only to grammar, spelling, and normative aspects, in order to maintain publication consistency, editors reserve the right to make the necessary modifications, respecting the author’s style. In other cases, the author must revise the manuscript according to the reviewers’ reports and journal’s requirements.
Editors reserve the right to reject submissions with significant similarity to other documents, identified by similarity-checking software, when exceeding 30% at any stage of the process.
The average time from submission acceptance to publication confirmation is approximately 160 days.
Reviewers may choose to have their review published anonymously alongside the evaluated article, following the template.
At the discretion of both reviewers and authors, identities may be revealed to clarify doubts and support manuscript writing.
Submissions of preprints may be accepted, with single-blind peer review.
Research data or supplementary material may also be submitted and published alongside articles, when applicable.
It is recommended to have a maximum of three authors, although not restricted to this number. The corresponding author is responsible for entering metadata for all co-authors, including their role, institutional affiliation, and academic degree, as in the following example:
Highest degree of the author. Affiliation, City, State, Country. E-mail. ORCID ID.
